12-10-19 Commission Meeting: Affordable Housing, Land and Energy Conservation, Proposed Phosphate Mine

County CommissionThe Alachua County Commission will conduct their Regular Meeting on Tuesday, December 10, 2019, in the Jack Durrance Auditorium (Room 209) on the second floor of the Alachua County Administration Building (12 S.E. 1st Street, downtown Gainesville). The Regular Meeting begins at 11:30 a.m. and will recess after the morning agenda items are completed. The meeting will reconvene at 5:01 p.m. for the evening agenda. 

At this meeting the County Commission will discuss affordable housing, land and energy conservation, and the proposed phosphate mine in Bradford and Union Counties.

  • Approval of a Proclamation declaring December 15, 2019 as “Alachua County Crisis Center Day” in Alachua County, FL
  • Approval of a Proclamation declaring January 12, through January 20, 2020 as “King Celebration 2020” in Alachua County, FL
  • Approval of Proclamation declaring January 13, 2020 as “Martin Luther King, Jr Hall of Fame Day” in Alachua County, FL
  • Approve appointment of “Hotel Owner/Operator” to the Tourist Development Council
  • Approve appointment of “Representative - Incorporated Cities - not Gainesville” Member to Wild Spaces Public Places (WSPP) Citizens Oversight Board for a partial term ending September 30, 2021
  • Presentation of Arts Council of Alachua County Annual Work Plan and Accomplishment

  • Resolution of Intent to utilize non-ad valorem assessments for solid waste collection, disposal, recycling, and management; and for community maintenance in the Sugarfoot Oaks/Cedar Ridge Preservation and Enhancement District
  • Resolution 19-XX - accepting the donation of real property from the Walker Family, and Resolution 19-XX adding Jane B. Walker Memorial Park to the Registry of Protected Public Places
  • Resolution 19-XX - accepting the donation of Real Property from Smith & Smith
  • Lake Santa Fe - Johnson Tract Option Contracts to purchase real property
  • HPSII Phosphate Mine - Alachua County concerns
  • Review of Gainesville Neighbors United Affordable Housing Proposal and overview of County activities and initiatives
  • CPA-05-19: Large Scale Comprehensive Plan Amendment
  • CPA-04-19: A request to amend the land use on parcel 06899-000-000 from Heavy Industrial to Light Industrial
  • ZOM-09-19: A request to amend the zoning district on parcel 06899-000-00 from MP (Manufacturing and Processing Industrial) district to BW (Wholesale and Warehousing) district
  • ZOM-10-19: A request to amend the Jonesville Business Park PD and zoning master plan to change residential and non-residential entitlements associated with the development


There are four public comment opportunities during the Regular Meeting, which enable citizens to speak to items not on the agenda. The public is encouraged to attend the meeting. It will be available to view live on Cox Channel 12, Facebook, and on the County’s Video on Demand website.
