The UF/IFAS Extension Alachua County Office is pleased to announce the following Commercial Horticulture programs for April 2026. These programs are being offered by Commercial Horticulture Agent Tatiana Sanchez-Jones and other extension specialists.
Hydroponic Vegetable Nutrient Management – April 24, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the UF/IFAS North Florida REC – Suwannee Valley (8202 CR 417, Live Oak).
This program features classroom and lab activities designed to help hydroponic vegetable growers manage their crop nutrients.
Topics include:
- Plant nutrient basics
- Water quality and media selections
- How to mix your own fertilizer
- Understanding the role of PH in your water
- Monitoring and adjusting nutrient solutions
- How injectors work
- Hands-on lab sessions
- Equipment and meters
The program costs $108.55 and includes lunch, refreshments and class materials. Participants must register online.

Beekeeping Series: Pest & Disease Management – April 25, from 9 am to noon, at the UF/IFAS Honey Bee Research and Extension Laboratory (1881 Natural Area Drive, Gainesville).
The UF/IFAS Extension Alachua County Office has developed a series of short courses that will help beekeepers get started. This workshop covers the causes of honey bee colony losses, pest monitoring and pest management. Special emphasis on Varroa Mite.
Live bees will be used. Participants should dress in protective clothing (closed-toe shoes, long sleeves, and a beekeeping suit, if available).
The registration fee of $20 (plus a $3.18 Eventbrite fee) includes materials and refreshments. Participants must register online by April 22. A late fee of $10 (plus a $3.85 Eventbrite fee) will be applied to registrations after April 22 or to those paying at the door. This class is limited to 30 participants. There will be no refunds for the registration fee.
