Community Reuse and Recycle Day

Community Reuse and Recycle LogoThe Alachua County Solid Waste & Resource Recovery Department, in collaboration with the Santa Fe College Teaching Zoo, invites residents to participate in the “Community Reuse & Recycle Day” on Saturday April, 15th 2023. Residents are encouraged to take advantage of this free spring clean out, donation, and Hazardous Waste Recycling Event.

Non-profit organizations including Santa Fe College (SFC) Saints Share Wear, Haven Attic Resale Store, Tools for Schools, SFC Saints Food Share, and Alachua County Household Hazardous Waste will be on-site to receive the following items:

  • clothing in wearable condition
  • non-perishable food
  • housewares in usable condition
  • school/office/art supplies
  • household hazardous waste such as paint, chemicals, old electronics etc. for recycling or
  • proper disposal.

The event will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Santa Fe College NW Campus, Construction Institute Parking Lot 9 on North Road, across from the gym. Signs and volunteers will be on site to allow for safe and efficient offloading of donations and hazardous waste materials.

In honor of Earth Day and in conjunction with the Zoo’s Party for the Planet Weekend, donors will receive a discount voucher for Zoo Admission.

The SFC Teaching Zoo’s Party for the Planet 2023 theme is, “Spring into Action!” The Zoo will have special events, food trucks and informational tabling all weekend. “The Community Reuse & Recycle Day at Santa Fe, gives residents the opportunity to ‘Spring into Action!’ by taking tangible action locally, to help their neighbors, protect valuable resources, encourage reuse, and reduce what we send to the landfill,” says Alanna Carinio, Alachua County Office of Waste Alternatives Public Education Program Coordinator.
