County Seeks Applicants for New Agricultural Land Conservation Board

Alachua County is seeking applicants to become the first members of the new Agricultural Land Conservation Board (ALCB). This board will play an essential role in conserving farmlands within Alachua County through the Alachua County Forever Program, which is funded by the voter-approved Wild Spaces & Public Places surtax.

Those passionate about protecting farmland, water resources, and open spaces are encouraged to apply. The application deadline is June 13, 2025.

The upcoming vacancies include nine members, serving staggered three- to four-year terms. Six are agriculture community members, with qualifications including education and experience in agricultural land management practices or land protection (five voting members and one alternate). Four at-large citizen positions are available for those who represent the interests and perspectives of county residents.

This board provides an opportunity for citizen involvement in protecting agricultural lands through conservation easements. The board reviews and recommends properties for acquisition to the County Commission.

The board will meet monthly in person at the Alachua County Administration Building (12 SE 1st St., Gainesville) in the Grace Knight Conference Room. Meetings generally last one to two hours, though they may vary depending on the agenda.

Interested applicants may apply online here. Click “View Vacancies” in the top right and scroll to the Agricultural Land Conservation Board.
