County to Begin NW 122nd Street Extension Project

Alachua County Public Works is excited to announce the construction of the Northwest 122nd Street extension, a project designed to improve connectivity, safety and accessibility in western Alachua County.

The $2.5-million project will begin Feb. 23, 2026, and extend Northwest 122nd Street from Newberry Road (State Road 26) to Northwest 17th Avenue. Plans include constructing a new two-lane, two-way roadway to accommodate current and future traffic needs.

The project also includes 10-foot-wide multiuse paths for pedestrians and cyclists, along with drainage improvements intended to enhance long-term roadway performance.

In addition, the extension will create new connections to Northwest 13th Avenue and Northwest 17th Avenue, improving neighborhood circulation and access to the South Pointe community. The additional connections will improve daily travel, enhance emergency response access and provide safer routes for residents.

“This extension demonstrates Alachua County’s commitment to building infrastructure that supports growth and strengthens our communities,” said Aaron Burke, Public Works construction inspections superintendent. “We look forward to delivering lasting benefits to residents in the area.”
