The UF/IFAS Extension Alachua County Office is pleased to announce the following Agriculture & Natural Resources program for November 2025. Agriculture & Natural Resources Agent Kevin Korus is offering this program.
Natural Areas Weed Management Pesticide Safety Course – Nov. 5, 2025, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Alachua County Ag Auditorium (22712 W. Newberry Road, Newberry).
This full-day training class provides comprehensive instruction on pesticide use and plant management in natural areas. Topics include pesticide movement in the environment, pest and plant identification, and legal requirements under the Worker Protection Standard. Participants will learn about herbicide chemistry, resistance management, and proper label interpretation.
Emphasis is placed on pesticide arithmetic, including rate and area calculations, followed by hands-on calibration of application equipment using various techniques. Special attention is given to managing woody plants in forest settings. The course combines lectures, demonstrations, and evaluations to equip land managers and applicators with essential knowledge for safe, effective vegetation control.
This course offers two core and six Natural Areas Weed Management CEUs.
The registration fee of $21.75 (plus a $3.30 Eventbrite fee) includes materials and lunch. Participants must register online by Oct. 29. This class is limited to 50 participants.
