The UF/IFAS Extension Alachua County Office is pleased to announce the following Environmental Horticulture events for October 2026. These programs are being offered by Environmental Horticulture Agent Cynthia Nazario-Leary and Master Gardener volunteers.
Planting, Pruning, and Production: Fruit Trees in the Home Landscape – Oct. 13, 2026, from 2 to 3:30 p.m., at the Alachua County Ag Auditorium (22716 W. Newberry Road, Newberry).
This class teaches how to select and care for fruit trees, including basic pruning techniques and tips for addressing common concerns. It also covers specific practices for maintaining smaller fruit trees to better fit into the home landscape. Please bring a pair of pruners to fully participate in the class’s pruning section.
There is no registration fee, but participants must register online. It is limited to 100 participants.
Fall Horticultural Expo & Plant Market – Oct. 17, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Alachua County Agriculture & Equestrian Center (23100 W. Newberry Road, Newberry)
The Alachua County Master Gardener Volunteer Program and Gainesville Garden Club are excited to announce this upcoming event, offering a fun-filled, family-friendly day of learning, exploration and community spirit. Admission and parking are free.
Event highlights include:
- Brie Arthur, keynote speaker and author of “Foodscape Revolution.”
- Fall plant sale and seed market, featuring a wide variety of plant and gardening vendors and Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ ideas. Bring a wagon for purchases.
- Bird, insect, and nature displays (explore the wonders of local wildlife and ecosystems)

- Kid’s zone
- Food trucks and live music
