Animal Resources Hosts Annual Summer Lovin’ Adopt-A-Thon

Alachua County Animal Resources invites the community to join in the annual Summer Lovin’ Adopt-A-Thon on Saturday, Aug. 9, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Animal Resources shelter (3400 NE 53rd Ave., Gainesville).

All adoption fees will be waived for the day, giving families the chance to bring home a new dog or cat at no cost. Each adopted pet will also go home with up to $600 in care and supplies, including vaccines, flea treatment, heartworm testing, a microchip and a collar. All pets will also be spayed and neutered at no cost.

This year, Animal Resources is teaming up with the University of Florida student chapter of the Association of Shelter Veterinarians to help clear the shelter and open space for more animals who need a safe place.

“We’d love to see families, students and neighbors come out to meet these amazing pets,” said Animal Resources Director Julie Johnson. “Our hope is to see over 100 wagging tails and purring kittens heading home with their new people.”

Animal Resources will close early on Friday, Aug. 8, at 2 p.m. to prepare for the event.

Adoptions are first-come, first-served. Adopters must be at least 18 years old and show photo ID with proof of address. Households with other pets should bring proof of current rabies vaccinations and licenses.
