Serving on an Alachua County Advisory Board offers you this chance. The County Commission relies on input from these Boards to make informed decisions and set policies.
Over 250 citizens serve on Advisory Boards that advise the County Government and local agencies on various topics. These include affordable housing, economic development, environmental protection, human rights, County finances, and many others. The Alachua County Commission seeks citizen volunteers to serve on several Advisory Boards.
The Historical Commission has nine vacancies. It provides leadership in identifying, preserving, and interpreting the County's history and historic sites. The Mission is to “Promote, Preserve, and protect Alachua County’s historic resources.”
Current Advisory Board openings include:
- Animal Welfare Advisory Committee – One Vacancy for Certified Veterinary Technician or Graduate of AVMA Accredited Veterinary Technology Program
- Bicycle/Pedestrian Advisory Board (BPAB) to the MTPO – One Vacancy for County Appointee #1
- Citizen's Disability Advisory Committee – Four Vacancies for Citizen at Large
- Historical Commission – Nine Vacancies for Citizen at Large
- Housing Finance Authority – One Vacancy Citizen at Large (knowledgeable in labor, finance or commerce)
- Human Rights Board – Three Vacancies, including two Citizen at Large and one Alternate
- Infrastructure Surtax Citizen Oversight Board – One Vacancy Representative (alternate) - Incorporated Cities - Not Gainesville
- Public Safety Coordinating Council – One Vacancy Representative County State jobs programs community groups who work with offenders victims
- Rural Concerns Advisory Committee – One Vacancy for Citizen at Large
- Tourist Development Council – One Vacancy for Hotel Owner/Operator
- Value Adjustment Board – One Vacancy for Citizen (must own homestead property in Alachua County) - has the homestead exemption
- Veteran Services Advisory Board – Three Vacancies, including one Citizen at Large (Veteran), one Citizen At Large (Veteran) - Alternate, and one Post 911 Veteran
