Marine Industries’ Workforce Meeting Rescheduled for April 20

A meeting postponed earlier this month to discuss the hiring and training needs of marine manufacturing and related businesses has been rescheduled for Wednesday, April 20, 2022.

Organized by CareerSource North Central Florida and CareerSource Citrus Levy Marion along with regional business and education partners, the meeting will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Best Western Gateway Grand Hotel, 4200 NW 97th Blvd., Gainesville (I-75 Exit 390, west on Northwest 39th Avenue to Northwest 97th Boulevard). A light lunch will be provided.

“In order to address the growth of the Marine industry (in our local areas), we are partnering with the employers, economic development and training providers to seek solutions for recruiting and training individuals.” said Phyllis Marty, CEO of CareerSource NCFL. “As the demand for boats and marine supplies increase, the talent needed to build, transport and maintain the boats gets harder to find. We plan to make waves in this industry through our event.”

Discussion will focus on:

  • Positions currently recruiting or interested in recruiting
  • Skills needed for entry-level workforce
  • Skill upgrades needed for current employees
  • Identification of key supply chain industries

In addition to the CareerSource regions, the following partners will take part in the discussion: the College of Central Florida, Marion Technical College, Nature Coast Business Development Council, Santa Fe College, University of Florida Office of Professional Workforce Development and the Gainesville Chamber of Commerce.
