Gainesville Walk of Fame to honor Alachua County musicians

​The concept for the Walk of Fame started bouncing around the brains of Telg and Andrew Caplan around a year ago. Caplan, a member of The Gainesville Walk of Fame advisory committee, said that the initiative will serve to both appreciate the musicians’ legacies and uplift the community.

New Alachua County park, Ellianos Coffee pass review committee

​Alachua County plans to build Pinesville Park on SW 170th Street just north of Archer. The two-acre property will be leased from St. Peter Missionary Baptist Church, and the site plan includes multi-use basketball and pickleball courts, pavilions, a playground and walking trails.

​Imagine you’re in the back of an ambulance, one of the scariest moments of your life, and the truck breaks down. You have to wait for another ambulance to come pick you up and take you to the hospital. That was the reality for some patients and first responders in Alachua County, but now they’ve received brand new, state-of-the-art ambulances to continue serving the community in the best way they can.

Design process begins to expand part of southwest Archer Road

​This comes after Alachua County received a $2.25 million reimbursable grant from the Florida Department of Transportation to complete the initial design work. It won’t be a quick process, however. 'State projects of this magnitude usually are years in the making,' said Stuart Cullen, PE, civil engineer and leader of the county’s capital projects team.

Alachua County farmers emphasize the importance of agricultural conservation as development encroaches

​Per Alachua County’s Climate Action Plan, Alachua County has lost more than 50% of its farmland since 1950 due to increased urban and suburban development. According to the World Population Review, the county’s population has risen from approximately 57,000 in 1950 to 286,000 as of 2023. This loss of land and growth in population emphasize the importance of agricultural land conservation and supply.

Demolition underway for Gainesville’s Thelma Boltin Center

Alachua County Commission reduces property tax rate, adopts budget on first reading
