Alachua County hosts Florida Arbor Day celebration

​The event featured guest speakers, including Holtzworth, other arborists and Alachua County Commissioner Marihelen Wheeler. Wheeler read the county’s Arbor Day Proclamation, while Holtzworth and the other guest speakers talked about the aging process of trees, protecting them from lightning and the importance of adding them to urban spaces.

Alachua board postpones decision on “Tara” stormwater strategy: controversial piece of Mill Creek development plans

​Tara April developer Sayed Moukhtara sought a “special exception” permit to build stormwater basins in an area zoned for agriculture near the intersection of Interstate-75 and U.S. Route 441. City and county staff raised concerns about the site’s sinkhole risk and recommended further studies.

Alachua County Commissioners withdraw letter to Sheriff because Prizzia said the agency ‘agreed to take down mugshots on social media’; Sheriff says ‘conversations are ongoing’

​During Commission Comment at the end of the January 13 Alachua County Commission meeting, Commissioners voted to withdraw a Chair letter to the Sheriff after Commissioner Anna Prizzia said the Undersheriff told her the agency has “already agreed to take down mugshots on social media.” However, a spokesman from the Sheriff’s Office told us “conversations are ongoing” and mugshots may be posted in specific circumstances.
