Alachua County awarded Staff Sergeant Parker Gordon Fox Suicide Prevention Grant

​Alachua County has been awarded a $500,000 Staff Sergeant Parker Gordon Fox Suicide Prevention grant (SSG Fox SPGP) from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to strengthen suicide prevention efforts and expand support services for veterans throughout the community.

Is Alachua County spending $106 million on roads in FY2027? Yes, but almost half of that is rolled over from previous years.

​When the Alachua County Commission passed the FY2027 budget on September 22, Commissioners and staff repeatedly referenced “$100 million for roads” in the budget; while it is true that the County has allocated nearly $108 million to transportation for FY2027, at least $49 million of that comes from unspent funds from previous years, and the road paving plan has not changed significantly.

Free Kitchen Caddies available for Alachua County residents

​O-Town Compost will distribute free 2.5-gallon Kitchen Caddies to residents at Alachua County Rural Collection Centers on Saturday, October 3, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. This initiative encourages residents to divert food scraps from the landfill and convert them into nutrient-rich compost.
