Alachua County Bans Conversion Therapy

Alachua County has joined more than a dozen other Florida counties in banning the controversial practice of conversion therapy on minors.

On May 28, 2019 the Alachua County Board of County Commissioners voted to ban licensed professional counselors from performing conversion therapy on minors, which aims to change an individual’s sexual orientation or gender identity through psychological treatment. The ban is effective within the geographic boundaries of Alachua County.
