The Alachua County Environmental Protection Department offers multiple locations in the County where residents can properly and safely dispose of unwanted pharmaceuticals or over-the-counter medications Free of Charge .

Simply take your medications to one of the convenient locations listed below  or call the Alachua County Hazardous Waste Collection Center (call 352-334-0440) for more information.

  • Flushing medications down the drain can contaminate our water supply
  • Medications and personal care products are being detected in water supplies nationally
  • Throwing away medication in the trash can lead to accidental swallowing by children and pets or theft.
  • Bring your unwanted pharmaceuticals to a participating location and empty medications into the provided disposal container. Take your empty container home and remove labels prior to disposal. Only products in pill, capsule or liquid form can be accepted. The medications will be properly managed as a hazardous waste and will eliminated any environmental concerns.

PLEASE NOTE: WE CANNOT ACCEPT NARCOTICS OR CONTROLLED SUBSTANCES DUE TO DEA REGULATIONS.
