canoe on the riverThe Alachua County Environmental Protection Advisory Committee (EPAC) is hosting a community conversation titled, “Water, what is it good for?”. The discussion is scheduled for Wednesday, February 5, 2020, from 6 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. at the Millhopper Library (3145 NW 43rd Street, Gainesville, FL 32606).  The discussion will focus on helping the community understand springs and river resources, their value, and what citizens can do to protect them. The event is free, and the public is encouraged to attend.

The panelists for this discussion include Tom Mirti (Suwannee River Water Management District), Charles Shinn (Florida Farm Bureau), Tony Cunningham (Gainesville Regional Utilities), Robert Knight (Florida Springs Institute), and Tatiana Borisova (University of Florida).  It will be moderated by Stacie Greco with the Alachua County Environmental Protection Department.

Panelists will summarize their thoughts on the subject and address questions about water issues and solutions. EPAC members will develop strategies for the Alachua County Board of County Commissioners based in part from the input they receive from this discussion.

EPAC provides an opportunity for citizen involvement on environmental issues and concerns affecting residents of the County. It advises the Board of County Commissioners on appropriate measures to safeguard air and water resources and on responsible management of public lands and resources.

For more information, visit the Facebook event or contact the Alachua County Environmental Protection Advisory Committee staff liaison Stephen Hofstetter at 352-264-6811.
