The Affordable Housing Advisory Committee (AHAC) is seeking applications to fill four openings. Presently AHAC meets in the Grace Knight Conference Room at the Alachua County Administration Building (12 S.E. 1st Street, Gainesville) at 1 p.m. Meetings are held on the third Thursday every other month. The deadline to apply is October 31, 2022.
Qualified AHAC applicants include citizens who are actively engaged in the residential building industry in connection with affordable housing, citizens who are actively engaged in the banking or mortgage industry in connection with affordable housing, citizens who represent areas of labor actively engaged in homebuilding, citizens who are actively engaged as advocates for low-income persons in connection with affordable housing, citizens who are actively engaged as for-profit providers of affordable housing, citizens who are actively engaged as real estate professionals in connection with affordable housing, and citizens who reside in Alachua County.
The members of the Committee are appointed by the County Commission and consist of nine members, all of whom must be residents of Alachua County. All members will serve for four-year terms, staggered so that approximately one-third of the positions will be appointed each year.
AHAC recommends regulatory incentives; reviews established policies and procedures, ordinances, land development regulations, and the adopted local government comprehensive plan, and recommend initiatives to encourage or facilitate affordable housing while protecting the ability of the property to appreciate in value; recommends modification or repeal of existing policies, procedures, regulations; recommend the creation of exceptions applicable to affordable housing; and recommends adoption of new policies or amendments to the local comprehensive plan.
