This press release was sent on behalf of Florida Commissioner of Agriculture and Consumer Services Nikki Fried.

Alachua County is proud to announce that County Veteran Services Director Kim Davis was recognized as the March 2022 Veteran of the Month by Florida Commissioner of Agriculture and Consumer Services Nikki Fried.

Florida Commissioner of Agriculture and Consumer Services Nikki Fried released this information about the award:

Today, Florida Commissioner of Agriculture and Consumer Services Nikki Fried, an independently-elected member of the Florida Cabinet, recognized Kim Davis as the March 2022 Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS) Veteran of the Month. Ms. Davis currently serves as Director of Alachua County Veterans Services following her service in the U.S. Navy and Florida National Guard.

The FDACS Veteran of the Month Initiative, established by Commissioner Fried shortly after taking office in 2019, recognizes veterans who have excelled in service to fellow Floridians, and honors the contributions that the men and women in uniform have made to our state. Commissioner Fried presented Ms. Davis with a proclamation honoring her service at today’s meeting of the Florida Cabinet.

“It is an honor to recognize Kim Davis for her dedicated service and leadership in helping veterans achieve the benefits, support, and success they have earned in service to our country,” Commissioner Fried said. “Kim Davis is a testament to the ideals of service, freedom, and justice for all that our nation holds so dear, and we are profoundly grateful for her service both in uniform and as an advocate for the veteran community.”

Kim Davis is a former Navy sailor where she served as an Avionics Technician repairing tactical air navigation systems which are used in various aircraft including the F-14 Tomcat Aircraft. She then returned home and joined the Florida Army National Guard as a Light Wheeled Vehicle Mechanic and later as an Automated Logistics Specialist serving in a logistical and supply capacity. After completing her three enlistments and a career-ending injury, she left the military and started her career as a veterans advocate. In her over 20-year career as a veterans advocate, she has been a Disabled Veterans Outreach Program Specialist and Local Veterans Employment Specialist for the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity; the President of Family Support and Readiness for the 325th Maintenance company; Secretary of American Hometown Veteran Assist; and for the past eight and a half years, Director of Alachua County Veterans Services.
