County Commission to Hold Four Meetings on June 28

The County Commission will hold four meetings on Tuesday, June 28, 2022. At 9 a.m., there will be a swearing in ceremony. At 10 a.m. the Commissioners will hear the County Manager’s 2022 Annual Report, and the FY23 Budget Message. At 11:30 a.m., the County Commission will hold their Regular Meeting. At 5 p.m., the Commission will hold a Special Meeting to discuss Alachua County Animal Resources and Care. All of these meetings are held in the Jack Durrance Auditorium, on the second floor of the Alachua County Administration Building (12 S.E. 1st Street, Gainesville).

Masks for vulnerable citizens are strongly recommended. The public may view the meetings on Cox Channel 12 and the County’s Video on Demand website.

9 a.m. Swearing-in Meeting:

The County Commission will swear in appointed County Commissioner Raemi Eagle-Glenn. The swearing-in will be followed by a welcome reception.

10 a.m. Budget Meeting:

County Manager Michele Lieberman will present her Budget Message to the County Commission.

11:30 a.m. Regular Meeting:

The public can make comments at this meeting in person or call in during the 12 p.m. (noon) comment period. Callers will have three minutes to comment on anything not on the agenda and three minutes to discuss anything on the agenda. Callers can choose either or both. Those commenting on items on the agenda will not be allowed to comment again on agenda items if attending the meeting in person later in the day. The call-in number is 1-929-205-6099. When prompted, enter meeting ID 873 5974 1977. Callers can hear the meeting while on hold and can use the system to listen. If you wish to comment, Raise Your Hand by dialing *9 (star nine). Once you are called on by the last four digits of your phone number, Unmute Your Phone by dialing *6 (star six).

Please state your name and begin your comments. The public comment moderator will determine whether you want one or both comment opportunities and tell you when your time is up.

In-person public comments will be taken for each agenda item, and the public will also have an opportunity to speak about items not on the agenda at noon.

  • Select artist for Sports Event Center sculpture
  • Select Alachua County Poet Laureate
  • Z22-00001: A public hearing to consider a request to rezone a three acre portion of parcel # 04344-001-000 from the BR (Business, Retail Sales and Services) zoning district to the BW (Wholesale and Warehousing) zoning district. (Quasi-judicial)
  • Preliminary Development Plan for Mivo Traditional Neighborhood Development (TND) (quasi-judicial)
  • Barr Hammock - Carr & McNab Tract Option Contracts to Purchase Real Property


5 p.m. Special Meeting:

The County Commission will conduct a Special Meeting at 5 p.m. to discuss Alachua County Animal Resources and Care.

Initially, the meeting was to be held on June 21 at 1:30 p.m. After hearing from multiple interested parties that an evening meeting was preferred to facilitate more community participation, the meeting time was changed. The meeting time will also enable a more detailed presentation from Animal Resources and Care Acting Director Nikki Healy.
