The UF/IFAS Extension Alachua County Office is pleased to announce the following Environmental and Community Horticulture Programs for February 2020. These programs are being offered by Dr. Taylor Clem, Environmental and Community Horticulture Agent, at the UF/IFAS Extension Alachua County Office (2800 N.E. 39th Avenue, Gainesville) unless otherwise indicated.
Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ Crash Course Series: Fertilizers & Pests in the Landscape – February 3, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
In this education series, participants learn in-depth topics related to the Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ Program’s nine principles.
This series highlights different topics each quarter, starting in February 2020, with information on fertilizing and managing landscape pests in Alachua County.
There is no registration fee, but participants must
register online (those needing assistance with registering can call the Extension Office at 352-955-2402) by January 31.
Butterfly Gardening – February 10, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Florida is home to over 170 species of butterflies. This program teaches which plants will attract the butterflies to an environmentally friendly garden.
The registration fee is $10.00 (includes course material and supplies). Participants must
register online (those needing assistance with registering can call the Extension Office at 352-955-2402) by February 7. There are no refunds for the registration fee.
Vegetable Gardening for Beginners – February 18, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., at the Cone Park Library (2801 E. University Avenue, Gainesville), conducted by a Master Gardener Volunteer.
Participants learn about an innovative way to grow vegetables. The program will teach vegetable gardening basics in a limited space. There is a demonstration garden located on site.
