Florida-Friendly Landscaping Code for Homeowner Associations Workshop

Florida Friendly LandscapingThe Alachua County Environmental Protection Department and UF/IFAS Extension Alachua County invite Homeowner Association (HOA) representatives and homeowners that live in communities with HOAs to a workshop on Thursday November 7, 2019, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. at the Newberry Library (110 S. Seaboard Drive, Newberry). Attendees will learn about changes to Alachua County Codes, the nine principles of Florida-Friendly LandscapingTM, and strategies for working together to install Florida-Friendly landscapes.

Alachua County adopted a new Homeowner Association Florida-Friendly LandscapingTM Code in April 2019 to encourage resilient landscapes that reduce the need for frequent irrigation and the use of fertilizers and pesticides. Under this new section of the Water Quality Code, HOAs may not prohibit the implementation of Florida-Friendly LandscapingTM, and new covenants may not require the installation of irrigation.

For more information on the new code, visit the EPD’s website or contact Hollie Greer at 352-264-6827 or Hgreer@AlachuaCounty.us.
