How Homeowner Associations Can Protect Water Webinar

sprinklerAlachua County Environmental Protection, the UF/IFAS Alachua County Extension Office, and the St Johns River Water Management District (SJRWMD) are offering a free educational webinar for Community Association Managers and Homeowner Association (HOA) Board Members on Thursday, August 4, 2020, from 10 a.m. until noon. The webinar is free, but requires online registration (An internet connection is necessary, but a webcam is not required).

This webinar will focus on landscaping in HOA common areas and residential yards that will decrease stress on local water resources and help communities stay in compliance with local codes. Presenters will discuss water quality, explain how landscapes relate to surface and groundwater, and will provide tips to reduce pollution while creating beautiful residential environments. Local environmental codes, Florida Friendly LandscapingTM, the importance of using waterwise plants, and proper irrigation maintenance will also be covered.
This training meets continuing education requirements and provides two credit hours OPP or ELE for Community Association Managers through SJRWMD’s Continuing education Providers License.

“Reducing irrigation and chemical use in our landscapes helps to protect local water bodies, aquatic plants, and wildlife,” said Alachua County Environmental Protection Department Water Resources Program Manager Stacie Greco. “Conserving water in our landscapes leaves more water available in the aquifer to keep springs and rivers flowing. Reducing fertilizer use prevents nutrient loading that contributes to algal blooms.”
