The unveiling is on Wednesday, June 19, 2019, at the Public Defender’s Office (151 S.W. 2nd Avenue, Gainesville) at 10 a.m. Light refreshments will be served.

A Call-to-Artists was nationally advertised for art to be commissioned, created and installed at the Public Defender’s Office that would reflect the mission of the Office. Twenty-five submittals were evaluated and the top three were reviewed by the Alachua County Commission, who selected James Gabbert’s Lady Justice in November 2018.

“Lady Justice was commissioned to celebrate the importance of equal justice and due process of law, and we are thrilled to unveil her for the enjoyment of residents and visitors alike,” said Public Defender Stacy Scott.
The mission of the Alachua County Public Arts Program is to enhance the quality of the visual environment in Alachua County, thereby adding to the quality of life and the level of citizen awareness of the importance of aesthetic experience in their everyday lives.
