The UF/IFAS Extension Alachua County Office is pleased to announce the following Environmental and Community Horticulture programs for March 2020. These programs are being offered by Dr. Taylor Clem, Environmental and Community Horticulture Agent, at the UF/IFAS Extension Alachua County Office (2800 N.E. 39th Avenue, Gainesville) unless otherwise indicated.
Container Gardening – March 9, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Conducted by a Master Gardener Volunteer.
Master Gardener volunteers teach plant selection and care of container plants, which includes potting medium, fertilization, and lighting needed for indoor or outdoor containers.
The registration fee is $10.00. Participants must
register online (those needing assistance with registering can call the Extension Office at 352-955-2402) by March 5. There are no refunds for the registration fee.
Landscape Irrigation: Preparing a Landscape to Water More Efficiently – March 14, from 9 a.m. to noon
A well-planned landscape requires very little irrigation, especially after plants are established. During times of drought, running and operating an efficient irrigation system is important. Join the County Extension Agent, Taylor Clem, to learn about irrigating with the Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ Program, which will include irrigation calibration, troubleshooting, and micro-irrigation installation.
The registration fee is $15.00. Participants must
register online (those needing assistance with registering can call the Extension Office at 352-955-2402) by March 13. There are no refunds for the registration fee.
How to Grow Tomatoes in Alachua County – March 17, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., at the Cone Park Library (2801 E. University Avenue, Gainesville). Conducted by a Master Gardener Volunteer.
Tomatoes can be grown successfully by many methods, including in baskets, in solution, on stakes, in the ground, mulched, unmulched, or in a greenhouse. This class will include basics of how to grow tomatoes in Florida’s challenging environment, including selection, managing pests, diseases, and disorders.
There is no fee, but participants must
register online (those needing assistance with registering can call the Extension Office at 352-955-2402) by March 16.
