March Family and Consumer Sciences Programs

pressure cookerThe UF/IFAS Extension Alachua County Office is pleased to announce the following Family and Consumer Sciences programs for March 2020. These programs are being offered by Martha B. Maddox, Family & Consumer Sciences Extension Agent IV, at the UF/IFAS Extension Alachua County Office (2800 N.E. 39th Avenue, Gainesville).

Pressure Cooker Meals for Two – March 4, from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Attendees learn to prepare meals for two in an electric pressure cooker, reduce cooking time by 80%, learn tricks to make cooking a breeze, reduce sodium, and save money by preparing meals at home. Participants receive a booklet with recipes for two and tips and tricks of pressure cooking.

The registration fee is $15.00. Participants must register online (those needing assistance with registering can call the Extension Office at 352-955-2402) by February 26. There are no refunds for the registration fee.

Pressure Cooker NO-Fuss Meal Prep – Ready to Go Meals – March 18, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Participants learn to prepare a meal in minutes for the table or for the freezer. They also learn to plan meals for a week or month using the electric pressure cooker, prepare frozen meat that is tender, and prepare a meal in one pot. Individuals will do hands-on meal prepping for meals to go and taste recipes they will receive in their booklet of recipes, tips and tricks of pressure cooking, and meal prep.

The registration fee is $20.00. Participants must register online (those needing assistance with registering can call the Extension Office at 352-955-2402) by March 11. There are no refunds for the registration fee.

Holiday Meals in Minutes with Pressure Cooker – March 23, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

This hands-on holiday meals electric pressure-cooking class will cover different pressure cooker models, appliance features, safety tips, additional equipment you can purchase, and tricks to make cooking a breeze. Participants will complete a holiday meal using several recipes in an electric pressure cooker. 

The registration fee is $15.00. Participants must register online (those needing assistance with registering can call the Extension Office at 352-955-2402) by March 16. There are no refunds for the registration fee.

Mediterranean Diet Meals in Minutes – March 24, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

This hands-on Mediterranean diet meal electric pressure-cooking class will cover how to prepare Mediterranean dishes in less time, different pressure cooker models, appliance features, safety tips, additional equipment you can purchase and tricks to make cooking a breeze.  

The registration fee is $15.00. Participants must register online (those needing assistance with registering can call the Extension Office at 352-955-2402) by March 13. There are no refunds for the registration fee.

Canning Food Preservation Workshop – March 25, from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Preserving your garden’s bounty from one year to the next and knowing exactly what is in your food are two good reasons for home canning. Also, these home canned items make great gifts to special friends and family. A lot of time goes into preserving food so it is important to learn the safe way to preserve food. This workshop will cover basic steps of home canning.  

The registration fee is $15.00. Participants must register online (those needing assistance with registering can call the Extension Office at 352-955-2402) by March 14. There are no refunds for the registration fee.
