March Family and Consumer Sciences Programs

The UF/IFAS Extension Alachua County Office is pleased to announce the following Family and Consumer Sciences programs for March 2021. These programs are being offered by Martha B. Maddox, Family & Consumer Sciences Extension Agent IV.

Freezing it Safely Webinar – March 2, from 10 a.m. until noon. This is a Zoom webinar (with Melanie Thomas and LuAnn Duncan).

This webinar covers the advantages and disadvantages of freezing, how freezing affects food, freezer selection, food safety guidelines, packing materials, and freezing guidelines and methods.

There is no registration fee, but participants must register online. A confirmation email with instructions will be sent to registrants. This program is limited to 100 participants.

Spice Up Your Life the Healthy Way with Herbs – March 16, from 10 a.m. until noon. This is a Zoom webinar.

Americans consume two to three times the amount of sodium needed in their diet daily. Sodium consumed is in the form of salt that is a flavor enhancer, and it is in all processed foods. How can individuals reduce the sodium in their diet without adding salt? They can substitute salt with herbs and herbal blends to enhance the flavor in their foods and reduce the sodium in their diets.  Learn how to use herbs in spicing up your diet.

There is no registration fee, but participants must register online. A confirmation email with instructions will be sent to registrants. This program is limited to 100 participants.

Adventures with Basil – March 23, from 10 a.m. until noon. This is a Zoom webinar.

Basil is one of the most popular herbs used in cooking.  Ancient Greeks call Basil the “royal herb” and many gardeners call it the “king of the herb.”  Learn how to use different species of basil as a flavor enhancer to reduce sodium in your diet.

There is no registration fee, but participants must register online. A confirmation email with instructions will be sent to registrants. This program is limited to 100 participants.
