November Agriculture and Natural Resources Programs

​The UF/IFAS Extension Alachua County Office is pleased to announce the following Agriculture and Natural Resources programs for November 2023. These programs are offered by Dr. Kevin Korus, Agriculture & Natural Resources Agent.

2023 Food & Agriculture Festival – November 4, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Cade Museum (811 S. Main Street, Gainesville)

This free event is hosted by the Alachua County Farm Bureau’s Young Farmers & Ranchers and Women’s Program. The vision is to engage a non-agricultural audience and educate them on agriculture's importance at the local, state, and national levels. 

Participants enjoy local agricultural goods and have fun learning about agricultural production. The Cade Museum admission fee will also be waived for the day.

Prescribed Fire Plan Discussion & Workshop – November 8, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., at the Alachua County Ag Auditorium (22716 W Newberry Road, Newberry)

This event includes a short presentation on services available from each agency/group represented (North Florida Prescribed Burn Council, North Florida Prescribed Burn Association, Florida Fish and Conservation Commission, Natural Resources Conservation Service, Southern Fire Exchange, and the Florida Forest Service). Following the presentations, there is a question-and-answer session. Topics included but not limited to:

  • Cost share programs
  • Assistance with prescribed burn planning
  • Assistance with implementing prescribed burns
  • Available training opportunities
  • Access to education and research
  • Fireline installation
  • How to obtain an outdoor burn authorization
  • Benefits of being a part of a prescribed burn council and/or a prescribed burn association

There is no registration fee to attend, but participants must register online. The event is limited to 250 participants.
