The Alachua County Commission seeks applicants to fill four Rural Concerns Advisory Committee (RCAC) openings. The application deadline is August 21, 2022. Appointments by the County Commission to the Committee are for three-year terms beginning October 1, 2022. The County Commission established the RCAC in 2003 to provide guidance and advice to the Board regarding rural concerns and issues in Alachua County. They generally meet on the third Tuesday of each month at 4 p.m.
The responsibilities of the RCAC are establishing the importance of rural, unincorporated agricultural, and historic settlements. The Committee also assists in the development and evaluation of policies and programs affecting the rural areas of the County, represents the rural areas in the County’s various community planning processes and hearings, and assists in the recognition and determination of the needs of the County’s rural residents and advising the Board accordingly.
Recently, the Rural Concerns Advisory Committee has provided valuable input to the County Commission on matters relating to the new Alachua County Agriculture and Equestrian Center, countywide public safety radio system, local foods procurement standards, and development standards for clustered rural residential subdivisions.
Positions are available for:
- One member chosen at large
- One member actively involved in agriculture and/or silviculture
- One member residing in the unincorporated area outside the urban cluster
- One member from the UF Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (IFAS)
