The UF/IFAS Extension Alachua County Office is pleased to announce the following Agriculture and Natural Resources programs for September 2022. These programs are being offered by Dr. Kevin Korus, Agriculture & Natural Resources Agent.
Small Farm Forage Establishment – September 13, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Alachua County Ag Auditorium (22716 W. Newberry Road, Newberry)
This class covers all aspects of establishing and managing healthy forages in north Florida. Topics include soil testing and preparation of planting, selecting perennial warm season forage varieties that fit an operation, fertilization, and weed control. In addition, there will be a discussion on planting both warm and cool season forages so that your pasture can be productive year-round.
The registration fee is $10.00 (pizza will be provided). Participants must
register online by September 8. There are no refunds for the registration fee.
Right-of-Way Pesticide Safety Course – September 29, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the UF/IFAS Extension Alachua County Office (22712 W. Newberry Road, Newberry)
Class topics will include General Standard Core, types of pests, pesticide labels, and herbicide calculations. The course material will be held from 8 a.m. to noon, followed by a lunch break from noon to 1 p.m., and exams starting at 1 p.m.
Continuing Education Units (CEUs) will be offered in the following categories: two General Standard Core and two Right-of-Way.
The registration fee is $20.00 (including lunch). Participants must
register online by September 26. The class is limited to 20 participants. There are no refunds for the registration fee.
