The UF/IFAS Extension Alachua County Office is pleased to announce the following Commercial Horticulture program for September 2022. This program is being offered by Dr. Tatiana Sanchez, Commercial Horticulture Agent.
Nutrient Management in Organic Vegetable Systems – Field Day – September 21, from 8:15 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., at the Plant Science Research & Education Unit (2556 County Hwy. 318, Citra)
This event will visit two field sites where participants can observe and learn about the research results on multiple areas influencing soil health and how they affect nutrients. Topics covered in the research plots include:
- Cover crop biomass, cash crop yields, and soil results
- Crop quality and pests/weeds
- Nitrogen cycling
- Nematodes
- Different growing systems, yield, and soil results
- Irrigation management, including demonstration of loggers and sensors
After visiting the plots, participants move indoors for the following short presentations:
- Microbes
- Soil moisture and irrigation
- Economics
Participants should wear comfortable clothes, closed-toe shoes, and bring a hat.
The registration fee is $5.00 (includes materials, lunch, and transportation from the main building to the research plots). Participants must
register online. This event is limited to 50 participants. There are no refunds for the registration fee.
