Solar Eclipse and Stargazing Event

Cuscowilla Nature and Retreat Center is hosting a viewing of the annular solar eclipse and a night of star gazing. Friends of Cuscowilla and many University of Florida student and faculty organizations will offer a unique educational experience as the annular solar eclipse happens on Saturday, October 14, 2023, from noon – 3 p.m. at Cuscowilla (210 S.E. 134 Avenue, Micanopy). The stargazing event ends at 10 p.m.

After the eclipse and before the evening of stargazing, visitors to Cuscowilla can enjoy its amenities, including catch-and-release fishing, hiking, volleyball, music, basketball, glow disc golf, and a variety of food trucks.

Savannah Still, a NASA Partner Eclipse Ambassador and student at the University of Florida, said, “Here in Alachua County, we will see the October 14th annular solar eclipse as a partial eclipse (65% coverage at its maximum, around 1:20 p.m.) which will dim the Sun’s light noticeably. Through safe-viewing instruments, we’ll be able to observe the moon eclipsing the Sun.”

Cuscowilla Manager Jamie Bass said, “This is a great opportunity to experience the park and enjoy a unique educational experience.”
