Alachua County Victim Services and Rape Crisis Center invites survivors of abuse and violence to contribute original artwork to the 2019 Unmasking Our Stories Survivors Art Exhibit. All types of artwork are welcome, including performance pieces, poetry, two-dimensional, and three-dimensional art. Regardless of experience, those who use art as a vehicle for healing are encourage to submit. The Center holds the annual art exhibit in recognition of Sexual Assault Awareness Month and Crime Victims’ Rights Week. The deadline for applications is March 29, 2019, and the art submission deadline is April 4.
This year, works will be on display at the Harn Museum of Art, from April 9, through April 24, with an opening reception during Museum Nights on April 11. Visionary CrossFit will exhibit the art from April 26, through May 3, with an opening reception and Unmasking Our Stories event on April 26, as part of Artwalk Gainesville.
“Words often fall short in expressing one’s most painful life experiences,” said Alachua County Victim Services & Rape Crisis Center Laura Kalt. “The exhibit provides a space for survivors of sexual, physical, and emotional violence to express their experiences, and for the community to take part in their healing process.”
