Alachua County Fairgrounds to Relocate to Newberry

Alachua County agricultural and equestrian centerThe Alachua County Commission is pleased to announce that the County Fairgrounds now has a permanent home at the Alachua County Agricultural and Equestrian Center (23100 W. Newberry Road, Newberry). The project also includes the relocation of the Alachua County Agricultural Cooperative Extension Offices. The property, formerly known as the Canterbury Equestrian Showplace, was purchased for $3.8 million. The design and engineering plans are in progress leading to construction beginning in the coming months.

The County solicited ideas for the Fairgrounds location from all interested parties. The City of Newberry proposed the Canterbury Equestrian Center. The Commission selected the Newberry site and staff has worked since November 2018, to rezone and close on the property. This work was completed on Wednesday, August 7, 2019.
