March Agriculture and Natural Resources Programs

The UF/IFAS Extension Alachua County Office is pleased to announce the following Agriculture and Natural Resources programs for March 2021. These programs are being offered by Dr. Kevin Korus, Agriculture & Natural Resources Agent.

Natural Areas Weed Management Pesticide Safety Education Course – March 18, from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Freedom Community Center at Veterans Memorial Park (7340 SW 41 Place, Gainesville)

Class topics include General Standard Core, types of pests, weed control in natural areas, plant ID practice, pesticide label, and herbicide calculations.

Up to four Continuing Education Units (CEUs) will be available. Participants can gain two CEUs from each of the following categories (total of four): two-General Standard Core (482), two-General Standard Core (487) and two-Natural Areas Weed Management Pest Control. 

The registration fee is $25.00, and participants must register online. This class is limited to 15 participants. There are no refunds for the registration fee.  

COVID-19 Precautions: Please practice social distancing during this event. Participants must wear facial coverings to enter the facility and while indoors. Those who cannot wear a facial cover must contact the agent for online alternatives for Continuing Education Units.  

Right-of-Way Pesticide Safety Education Course – March 24, from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Freedom Community Center at Veterans Memorial Park (7340 S.W. 41 Place, Gainesville)

Class topics include a discussion of herbicide modes of action, herbicide additives, herbicide chemistries and weed biology, application types (broadcast, banded, etc.), spray equipment (nozzle types), pesticide movement through drift, leaching, runoff, worker safety, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), review of area calculations and weight/volume conversions, and how to read an herbicide label.

Up to four Continuing Education Units (CEUs) will be available.  Participants can gain two CEUs from each of the following categories (total of four): two-General Standard Core (482), two-General Standard Core (487) and two-Right-of-Way Pest Control.

Onsite registration begins at 8 a.m. The registration fee is $25.00, and participants must register online. This class is limited to 15 participants. There are no refunds for the registration fee.
