Hurricane Dorian Update 8-29-19 4:45 p.m.

Hurricane DorianAlachua County is now under both a State and Local State of Emergency. The County’s Emergency Management team continues to watch and prepare for the impacts of Hurricane Dorian. Although the path of the hurricane may change from its current forecast, heavy winds, rain, and flooding are expected for the area. Tropical Storm force winds are likely to begin later in the Labor Day weekend.

Residents are encouraged to monitor the storm. View the latest information about Tropical Storm Dorian from the National Weather Service.

The public will be notified if and when shelters are opened.

To stay informed about current conditions and threats from Hurricane Dorian, call 311, the Alachua County Information and Rumor Control Line. Use it to verify the most up to date information on the hurricane. This number cannot receive texts. Please use 911 for emergencies only.

Residents are encouraged to have an emergency preparedness plan, a basic emergency supply kit, and to register for emergency alerts at www.AlertAlachua.com.

In preparation for Hurricane Dorian, Alachua County will have sandbags available for residents on Friday, August 30, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday, August 31, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Wayside Park (11855 N.W. US 441, Gainesville). There is a limit of 10 bags per person. Residents wishing to pick-up sandbags can access the pick-up site via CR 237 and Eastbound N.W. 126th Ave. To control traffic and expedite the pick-up process, please follow the directions below to access the pick-up site. Access to the site via westbound N.W. 120th Lane and northbound NW 59th Terrace will not be permitted.
