May Family and Consumer Sciences Programs 2019

presssure cookerThe UF/IFAS Extension Alachua County Office is pleased to announce the following Family and Consumer Sciences programs for May 2019. These programs are being offered by Martha B. Maddox, County Extension Agent IV, at the UF/IFAS Extension Alachua County Office (2800 N.E. 39th Ave., Gainesville).

Reducing Sodium and Keeping the Pressure Down – May 14, from 10 a.m. to noon

This program addresses high blood pressure and the role sodium plays. Controlling sodium intake can lead to a healthier lifestyle. Workshop topics include the hidden amounts of sodium in food, tips to reduce sodium consumption, and methods to improve your diet to lower your blood pressure through hands-on activities.

The registration fee is $15.00. Participants must register online (those needing assistance with registering can call the Extension Office at 352-955-2402) by May 7. There are no refunds for the registration fee.

Cooking Under Pressure – May 16, from 10 a.m. to noon and repeated again from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

This program explains the differences in electric pressure cooker models. Participants learn about appliance features, safety tips, additional equipment available, and cooking tips to help those interested in purchasing an electric pressure cooker. Participants will complete a recipe in an electric pressure cooker and sample different recipes.

The registration fee is $25.00. Participants must register online (those needing assistance with registering can call the Extension Office at 352-955-2402) by May 9. There are no refunds for the registration fee.
